ESG intelligence for SA property portfolios

Turn ESG reporting into a portfolio advantage.

Avoid the R 5 M EPC fine per building, recover Section 12L tax at 95c/kWh of verified savings, and report to every framework from one verified dataset.

Comply → Measure → Report

From compliance entry to ESG intelligence.

01 · Comply

EPC certification

SANEDI-registered professionals assess and certify your buildings to SANS 1544, removing the R 5 million per-building fine exposure that came with live EPC enforcement.

EPC compliance →

02 · Measure

Energy and carbon monitoring

One AI-enabled pipeline ingests your meters, BMS feeds and utility invoices, then validates and standardises every reading. Dashboards report in Rands, not kWh.

03 · Report and optimise

ESG reporting and Section 12L

One verified dataset maps to GRESB, JSE, TCFD, CDP, GRI and ISSB in parallel, while the automated Section 12L engine turns verified savings into recurring tax recovery.

Integrations

Connects to the hardware you already run

The platform ingests meters, inverters, BMS feeds and utility invoices through one pipeline: capture, validate, standardise, integrate. No rip-and-replace of the systems you have already paid for.

Running something else? The ingestion pipeline is built to add sources. Ask us about your stack.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an EPC and does my building need one?

An Energy Performance Certificate rates a building’s energy use under SANS 1544. In South Africa, EPCs are mandatory for most non-residential buildings over 2,000 m² (1,000 m² for government), and enforcement is live: non-compliance carries a fine of up to R 5 million per building, imprisonment, or both. GreenBDG’s SANEDI-registered professionals handle assessment, certification and display requirements end to end.

What is Section 12L and how much is it worth?

Section 12L of the Income Tax Act rewards measured and verified energy savings at 95 cents per kWh saved. Most portfolios never claim it because measurement and verification is onerous. GreenBDG automates the evidence trail, turning verified savings into recurring tax recovery that often offsets the cost of the programme itself.

Do we have to replace our existing BMS or ESG software?

No. The platform integrates with the systems you already run, from building management systems to sub-metering and inverter fleets, and can feed its verified dataset into your existing ESG reporting tools. Nothing you have invested in is thrown away.

Where is our data hosted?

In Johannesburg, on POPIA-compliant infrastructure. Your building and consumption data stays in South Africa.

Which ESG frameworks does the platform support?

One verified dataset maps in parallel to GRESB, the JSE Sustainability Disclosure Guidance, TCFD, CDP, GRI and ISSB-ready formats. You compile the data once and report everywhere.

How long does onboarding take?

A building can be onboarded in under 15 minutes with the self-service wizard: upload the portfolio, invite staff by magic link, connect meters and utility accounts. Full metering integrations are scheduled around your operations.
